A vibrant home to share, learn, and connect through the arts, dance, music, and community events.
We’re a nonprofit community space in Burlington’s Old North End that hosts performances, dances, rehearsals, trainings, meetings, socializing, games, celebrations, and more. With big windows, beautiful light, and a great sound system, the building is home to one of the few remaining wood-floor ballrooms in Burlington.
North Star Hall is a welcoming and inclusive space for all—including diversity in race/ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and physical ability. We celebrate our differences and strive for fairness by doing everything we can to make our space and programs accessible. We’re committed to reducing barriers, listening to our community, and continually improving access for people of all abilities to feel welcome, appreciated, and able to take part.
Community groups and individuals use our dance hall and meeting rooms for activities and events in a low-cost rental arrangement. Volunteers share responsibilities for the care and maintenance of the building and grounds.
Identity Named Goethe Lodge #592 when it was built in 1895 (check out the historic sign on the front)—the Hall was known as the Champlain Club from 1994 to 2021. In 2021 we became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, adopted the name North Star Community Hall, retired the liquor license, and converted the former bar into a music room, creating an all-ages, welcoming space.

Restoration The inspiration to restore the building grew from a vision of a lively, nonprofit community center that honors—and stands on the shoulders of—the Old North End’s historic German immigrant community. Thanks to many partners, funders, and stakeholders, we’ve renovated the building step-by-step and phase-by-phase. In 2025 (with support from the Vermont Community Foundation), the Board developed a strategic plan to guide us as we expand our impact and grow the community.
